It never fails with this lemon Acorn 5210 cam. I've had tons of issues with mine and others have had very few.
I've had so many issues I lost count but seemed to be able to get it up and running each time it hiccupped.

The issue of illumination I got a handle on tonight. Upon investigation the Corn's IRB's were all not firing. I couldn't tell because the sorry sized Ltl arse IRB window is covered mostly by the sensor eye of the extender. I eliminated the extender being the issue and attacked the Ltl pain in the arse next.

I saw only 12 IRB's were working and if I knocked on it the array would change but, be duller than the previous display amount. Never did all the IRB's ever come on.
I disassembled the piece of $hit and noticed the yellow wire on the circuit board was loose. I soldered it back and of course it didn't light the whole display but, illuminated the multi display changes mentioned before.

That's as good as it was getting so I button up the sorry made junker and decided to try 12v external to maybe brighten up what was working (cam can operate on AA's, 6 or 12v per Old Boys). I had 4-AA's in the MMS backpack and noticed the backpack was warm. I opened the backpack to find one of the damn AA's leaked out and made a mess. Man, what next? I cleaned the mess and didn't reload the MMS pack. I plugged in the external power plug and switched the cam to test and now the display is whacked out with the white screen of death.

You can imagine about this time that camera was called every name in the book but, I wasn't giving up as I mastered just about every situation this sorry made clunker cam could throw at me. I thought all was lost and the light went on in my head and thought " Preload the commands off the CD disk that came with it!!!!!
I did just that and the junker cam is working once again. The IRB's are still only 12 count and repositioned the sensor eye over the ones that work and away she goes firing the extender again. If the mouth breather steals this cam he'll probably bring it back where he stole it at as he won't be smart enough to figure the resolve on this clunker cam.

I would not recommend this camera maker to anyone for all the he!! a single camera has given me in the last 2yrs. Some here have 1 or 2 and work fine but, don't hold your breath on that.

That's my stand on the Ltl Pain in the arse 5210mm 940nm

I gotta tell you, I love my Little Apple MMS Cam. It will be two years old this June. Still grinding out the pictures 24/7/365.
The only problem I had with the camera was the pins on the MMS module (backpack) were stuck and it was sending me weird pictures. I sprayed WD-40 onto the pins and they loosened right up. Ever since then, it's been flawless.

Yeah, that's why I included that statement in the above text. That camera sucks in my opinion. Very cheaply made after deeper investigation of it to carry that hellava price tag just to send MMS images. One of my side latches wanted to break loose and the cheaply made bottom door hinge area sucks too. It sucks in such a manner that they even put a warning about that door when using a tripod mount. The kicker is I'm really delicate with it too because of such knowledge prior.

If the damn thing is a problem then why not fix it first? That issue reminds me of if there's a bump in the road the jokers go to the extreme to post a sign there instead of fixing the bump!

I wish I would've bought a better made MMs cam that had more IRB's on it instead of the poor little excuse for a light set up is on the 940nm model. If I get another MMs cam, I'm going Spypoint 3G model that has 46 IRB's more than double the ity bity 24 the Corn has and more rugged built. Anything can go wrong with trail cameras so always expect that variable. When it works flawless be happy, when it doesn't don't be surprised.

The 6210mm has improvements I've seen in my hands but, they still kept that silly ity bity little damn IRB window again. Knuckleheads at that builder must not have read complaints about that issue or not enough folks posted that crummy issue. I like to see at night and this camera sucks at providing the illumination I require and to post to show others without straining to see what's just feet behind the dreaded 30' circle of light. Day pictures are fine.

These are some of my findings of why the camera really sucks with actual proof that it does so, I stand my ground on the camera is rated as a "Poor Rating" That other so called "Rating site" post the reality of a camera after 1yr or 2 instead of "I tried it for a 1 day" and this is what my dumba$$ noted and had to send it back fast or be charged for it. Unbiased, yeah right. That's another story in itself over there.

I will admit my Acorn is VERY VERY VERY cheaply made. I broke the tiny bottom latch already.
99.999 percent of my sets are very very close. Subjects are never more than 3 to 10 feet away from the camera. The LED's provide more than enough light for my applications. I did buy a Spypoint low glow wireless IR booster for it but rarely use it.

It seems that way anyway Jeff. Actually that's the reason I went to homebrews because of the various things commercial cams are about. From quality, features, dependability, sizes, illumination, pixels, customer service and the list goes on and on. I found the Homebrews for MY application solve the major issues.

This say you won't have problems with them as I have and they've been minor compared to the commercial cam headaches I've had. I will also add
"you get what you pay for" when buying commercial cams.

I'll stick with the Homebrews for now and even have a email sent image camera available as a homebrew also. I like the Spypoint 3G because of the GPS tracking device inside of it for theft. This should be a "no brainer" for those of us who's had a camera stolen before.

Why folks buy the camera they do is solely upon them and hopefully their application as the choices are astronomical nowadays. I looked at the high priced Reconyx 600 the day at Bass Pro and couldn't justify that price tag for just a machine gun firing camera that has a sorry night illumination too boot. The great thing is to be able to see others posts with day or night pictures to see what they look like before you make the jump on any camera made today.

These are some of the reasons I choose the devices available today.

If your talking about the extender Ray, it's well worth it if your objective is to light up the night! It has a 50 or 100 IRB setting (can get a red brake light model)and can be ran off of 4-D cells or 6v SLA.

The unit states it can run off of 12v but, I smoked everyone that I attempted with 12v. Spypoint couldn't understand why and they tested it at their Canada repair facility and no issues. Hmmmmmmmm......... I get it home and the first blast smoked the IRB's.

I run it off of 6v SLA and it never misses and is bright as all get up. The IRB (black) can only be used on black flash cams!! I've used it with the Stealth XT and the DXG 567V. I paid $79.00 + ship for mine on a site and never seen them that cheap ever again for the IRB "B" meaning black flash. I turned SH on to that site and he scarfed up on one too.

The Acorn was the reason I bought it as I'm not interested in pictures of animals faces at the lens opening. If they walk up there then it is what it is.

It can be used for 50' away or so from the cam if wanted. I kept it at the Acorn because the stock flash sucked. I added a Homebrew extender to my S600 which has a bodacious stock flash already but, I'm moving it out 60' from the camera for more depth lighting as deer usually travel scattered out.

I say the Spypoint IRB extender is well worth the price as long as it's under $95.00.
