Ghost birds
On the 1st day of the youth turkey season me and dad went out. We sat in a valley expecting the turkeys to come down there because it was really windy, and cold. We heard them come of thier roost right at daybreak, but after that it was kinda dead. We sat there untill 10, then we walked up to a spot where I got my biggest turkey a few yrs ago. We took a seat beside a tree, and my dad called a few time with no response from a turkey. We were there for another 30 minutes, then he called one more time. We waited another 10 minutes, then we both stood up, and started to get our things together to head home. We were both just starting to walk out then I glanced back into the treeline. There was a tom stareing at me. I slowly turned around and shouldered my gun. I was just about ready to pull the trigger when he walked behind a thick shrub. Just then I looked a little more to the right. Right there at 25yrds were 4 LONGbeards looking at us. I aimed at the one and pulled the trigger. Right after I shot they all ran away like none of them were hit. I went up to where he was standing whe I shot, and there was nothing, no blood, nothing. The turkeys were out 60yrds by that time, and couldn't get a 2nd shot at any of them. After looking at the nearby trees, I noticed that there was alot of bb's in the trees close to where the turkey was. The spread of the bb's was probably 3-4ft wide. I looked back to where I was standing when I shot, and notice that the wad was only a little over 10yrds from where I shot. I looked to make sure the wad didn't hit any twigs or something, but I couldn't find anything. If I woulda had the shells I usually have, I woulda had myself a Turkey. It's winchester from here on out
What's really odd is that all 5 came in silent. None of them made a sound, didn't even snap a twig.

Re: Ghost birds
Hope you have better luck next time. Maybe next time they'll be more vocal.
