So far the red 40 has been great! You can find the 2012 models for cheap

Alot to consider with that question.
1- Price range
2- Black flash, ir, or white flash
3- Do you want pics, video, or video with sound
4- How do you plan on using the cam, food plots, bait, or trails.
5- Is theft an issue
All things to consider first, because no one cam does them all.

I would like to get something under $300. I would like the IR flash, and it would mainly be used on trails and bait.

I'm big on Moultrie and you could get a couple m100xt's for 300 or the new 880 with a 100ft flash range, but on trails they could cause ir burn on close subjects. I would lean towards Bushnell and a 2 year warranty. I think I would hold off on buying until all the 2013's hit the market and see what's good and what's got problems. Makes for a boring b-day, but in the long run it's better to get a cam you know you'll like and works as advertised.

If black out isn't a high priority, the homebrews images, flash and reliability crush average priced commercial cams. If blackout is a priority "I" suggest a IRB extender so you can see what's all standing or out there. Don't cut yourself short on video capabilities w/sound if desired whenever. Buy quality not quantity of gizmos and gadgets on it unless it's been tested for reliability for over 2 years in the field. The Bushnell warranty is a hard one to beat if you like their cameras. Don't forget to look here for black out cameras. bounce

A BIG X2 on that. Some people like em, but I haven't had good luck with the. Have had 3 so far. The ones I've had missed alot of deer Sad they do take good pics though Laughing I had one for two years and in that entire time it did't take over 1500 pics, while a cheap WGI cam I had took more than that in a month...

I have 3 black flash cameras and can see the red blob from all 3 of them.
Don't believe the black flash hype. It's not true. You can see the IR's firing.

I thought I had the black flash / glow resolved in another post so, here's a more in depth report. Take note!
You seem to have red brake light IR's then. The term Black means the IR's don't show or are called low glow. SH your Acorn doesn't emit "Red" colors like those others you listed. Builders state that there really isn't a true "Black Flash" set up it glows not flash. "Black Glow" as I'll call it has black IR's in the window when you look at it or maybe a blue appearance. No flashing, glowing noticeable to the human eye except when you put your nose up to it.
Here's a "Black Glow" from the Acorn, Spypoint IRB "B", DXG 567V 120 IRB "B"

Trail camera IMG_0297-2
Low Glow or Black shows NO completely red colors like red brake light ones

Forgot all about the spypoint tiny w2. Always thought that it'd be awsome to be able to go up to the box and take out the SD card there instead of walking right up to the camera every time.

After numerous tests with IRB lighting I've found the more IRB's on, the more sharper the image is. I'll be investing in another 100 IRB Spypoint extender and make a double swivel mount for them together. The idea is not to blast a certain spot but spread the light in a bigger arc close to a 3 to 9 o'clock coverage.

You could eaither go with one good camera or a few cameras that are not as good you could get 3 of the new DLC covert MPE5 cameras for just under 300 if thats your price range

To be honest covert camera pictures look better then allot of other commercial cameras out on the market plus they have great Customer service and the cameras are priced reasonably! There allot of cameras out there and your never going to find the perfect camera ! just be sure you get one that has good customer service!
