Decoys
Do any of you guys ever set up decoys while in the rut??
I never have used them but they would seem kinda handy in certain situations only bad part is that the deer might be a little more spooked while coming in ,, but if everything works out the deer would be more focused on the decoy then his surroundings then allowing you to move around a little more!
Just wondering if you guys think that there usefull or if they mess up more hunts then not

I have also never used one.. My dad's friend used one one year and never used one again. He said every deer that came in and saw the decoy blew and then ran away Another person he knows has used one with success , so it can just depend on your area....

Re: Decoys
Or maybe it depends on the smell of the deer.

Re: Decoys
If I would use one it would pry be in a place without much cover, just to keep the deer's attention off me.

I'm sorry, i meant smell of the decoy. But pudge what is the use of a distraction if they are scared of it. Wouldn't it be better to be used as an attraction for the rut or not at all. I don't know.

I think they would work the best during the rut but you still might spook a few deer off .. but for the most part if you would use them during the rut i would think that it would help you bag a nice buck!!

There is also the price to think about in gauging there usefullness. lol

Re: Decoys
Have had a Flambeau Redi Doe since the late 90's. I have not used it in a long time. The doe's do not like a deer that stands motionless. Only good results I've had is when it was in a bedded position, deer don't expect a bedded deer to move. Had a nice buck come to it early season once, but finally saw me before his chest cleared a big limb. If I had big ag fields to hunt I would use it. In small food plots you have to retrieve it after dark and risk spooking all the deer instead of just slipping out quietly. They will not work inside a woods. Deer must be able to see them at a distance. Have a cardboard feeding doe and it never worked.
