Observation Empty Observation

Post by Sodbuster Tue Nov 18, 2014 6:04 pm

We've had some bitter cold weather here since last Tue and ever since then the deer (including bucks) have been using the salt/mineral block heavy. Found it interesting and I'm interested to see if it continues or stops with the temps returning to normal.

One thing I did learn a several years ago when I switched to using a water trough is all deer drink as much water in the extreme cold as they do in the extreme heat when they can get it. Hard to provide it to them without it freezing, but they spend their time licking the ice to get what they can.

The bitter cold temps have set in here to ! We had 8 degrees this morning and the deer have been hitting the corn ! None of them have really been using the trophy rocks ! Mabey an actual salt block would be more appealing to them!

Aren't we supposed to be experiencing global warming?

As expected the salt/mineral block usage has all but stopped with the warmer temps.
