Looks like a calcified joint. I had the same thing happen to a buck on my cam this past winter-

I agree with Nan. Several years ago, I took a doe with a huge front joint. It was a shotgun shell in her leg joint.

I'm surprised we don't see more deer with leg issues because of the "on edge" life they live. Seeing them bolt through the woods in all types of terrain is a miracle in itself.

Arthritis kicking in.
