TURKEY QUESTION Empty TURKEY QUESTION

Post by marv whealon Thu Jan 16, 2014 7:59 am

I've had 6 or 7 turkeys stop by pretty regular. It seems they all have beards. So are they all males? Is it the norm for gobblers to hang together?. Marv.

Bearded hens are pretty common, but those look like gobblers. Gobblers spend most of the year together. Down the road from me there is a group of 15 gobblers and my mom has a group of 6 that come running when she dumps corn.

Thanks for the info guys.Yes we do have a turkey season here in the spring. The last 20 years have seen a good growth of turkeys despite the growth in the coyote population.

I' sure that the coyote will hurt a turkey population!! But I think coon, possums and skunks will quickly bust a nest and eat some eggs !! They can ruin the population really fast to!! Do you hunt turkeys ?? I was suprised on how fun they are to hunt!!

I don't hunt them myself but one of the boys here does.I'm not sure how many eggs the coons and coyotes eat, but I do know the hens get pretty aggressive when anything gets close to their nests.
