Did a test
Like TCG i did a test with a few cams.I put a Moultrie D-55IR, WGI W6e along with my Day only Jazz vid buildon the corn pile. The jazz was set on 1min video length, with a 1 min delay. The Moultrie was set on 3 pic burst and a 15 sec delay. The D-55IR had 90 pics, so 30 triggers in 1 night. The day ONLY jazz had 120 videos, so the jazz had 120 triggers. Remeber the jazz only takes videos during the day, and was on a 1min delay. The moultrie which is on a 15sec delay and takes pics day/night failed miserably in the sensing department. The WGI W6e was on a 15sec delay, PIR on High, and on the same tree as the D-55IR. It had over 470 pics This was just a 1 day soak..

Re: Did a test
Sure is, I knew the moultrie missed deer, but didn't know to this extent...

Re: Did a test
I've always said this about my d-55 white flash, but no one ever seems to believe me that the sensor stinks. It's the only thing I don't like about the cam.

Re: Did a test
Well I did another test with the moultrie. A friend and me swapped cams for a week so I put it up against the moultrie. It was an 09' SG550 Both had new batteries. The SG was about 5" under the moultrie. Total pic count for the moultrie was 180 pics and the SG had over 850. The moultrie was on a 15sec delay and 3 pic burst. The SG was on a 30 sec delay and 1 pic per trigger.

Re: Did a test
I have noticed with my moultrie 880 that it doesnt sense well past 40 feet unless it is significant movement, then maybe 50 feet tops.It also won't pick up squirrels, birds, and sometimes even turkeys. It senses best when lower to the ground(about 3 feet to the top of the cam is best for deer sized animals) and or tipped forward a bit. I also have the new browning black flash, and it is about the same in the sensing department as the moultrie imo.

Re: Did a test
Imo the only downside to moultrie is the sensing. So far every one we've had has had crappy sensing. All of those had the round fresnals though. I think i'd buy the newer moultries though(m880, m990I etc )
I also forgot to metion that the deer and other animals were only 10-15ft from the cams.

Re: Did a test
I checked my D55IR yesterday and was very disappointed. Out of the 30 pictures it took, the only one that had an animal in it was 1 and it was a small portion of me. And I purposely walked very slowly in front of it. That's it. I'm done with it. I just ordered a new D-333 for $79 at Cabela's. Stay tuned.

Re: Did a test
Even with the wide angle sensor on some of the new moultrie models, there range is limited to 40 feet max and even then it is hit and miss.My primos cams don't miss anything, but the day pics aren't as nice as moultries, and the night pics have a bit more blur sometimes.

Re: Did a test
I have run test on out of the box cams, new batts and sd cards with all the same settings set up on the same post only to get 40 percent less pics on one of the cams. The real test is after a few seasons then they really lose there sensing power. My Ltl acorns after year 4 are about shot, my bushy are out of control in just over a year same for the moultrie and the primos have been non stop return mode to the repair center.
Last flood /rains killed 4 cams and I am going out tomarrow to collect cams on another farm ...who knows
