just a jake

Well saturday i had about 2 hrs to hunt in the morning and i decided to go and It was going to be one of my last chances to hunt this spring! when i stood up to leave i seen a group of birds about 300 yrds off and i set back up and started calling to them and they came running accross the road I figured they were jakes since they were so quick to the call, I lost sight of them for about 15 mins and then i called again and they gobbled behind us mabey 60 yrds and he sounded real good i figured mabey there was a gobbler in the group, But i kept calling and they were gobbling there heads off , you could hear they were jakes but there was 1 that sounded pretty good! I was silent for about 10 mins and i could here them coming up from behind they were rustling some leaves and i knew they were close! I let them walk past me at about 8 yrds and once they got to the field i called just a bit and the one gobbled that sounded the best and he was the biggest in the group so i quickly swung on him and by then he was putting and planning on getting out of here but he didnt leave fast enough ! A load of winchester xx at 12 yrds slowed him down pretty good! they other birds flew down the hill

He had about a 5 1/2 inch beard wich IMO is not bad for a jake ! he has a real nice fan tail

I got off of work tomorrow so im taking my sister out and this time the video camera goes along!
