Deer hunting tricks
Does anybody have any hunting tricks or tips on deer hunting??
Most important thing I learned is to never underestimate a deers smelling abilities!!!
Always store clothes in a scent free container... because it really sucks if you get busted Lol..
Any of you have any?

Don't over do calling and if your not coforatable with a shot don't take it, it's better to let a deer walk than make it suffer.

Re: Deer hunting tricks
Calling works, even on little deer. My friend and I were hunting in a blind and a spike came up and stood around 45 yds. away. I bleated with the Primos can and got its attention, and my friend through some grunts out with the Primos buck roar. Little thing thought we were calling from behind us and immediately turned and walk dead at us. My friend got ready and at 12 yards it turned a little. I stopped it and he shot. Unfortunately the combination of shooting with the wrong pin and a ducking deer he missed it. But i was suprised to see a little deer like that react to calling so quickly. The trick is making it sound as if the deer isnt where you are but past you. We actually held the calls outside the blind to call and didnt point the call at the deer. Hope this helps, BEAST

I always like to practise allot
then when it comes down to taking a shot at a deer you will be prepared!

Don't rush the shot. Wait another second.

Ya same here it's always hard to wait especially if it's a really nice deer that's where I have messed up and could use some practice...

I have the problem of not settling in and will shoot barely a second later than i draw back. I also jerk the trigger in those situations.

Re: Deer hunting tricks
usually i try to settle in and take a deep breath to get the sights steady then let the arrow fly!!
sometimes i forget that though
sometimes i forget that though

It's amazing how much you forget when that deer is sitting there staring you in the eyes, no matter how much you go through it before you still have to go through it again. The biggest thing for me is not necessarily bad shooting, it's the mentality that causes the bad shooting in the moment.

Re: Deer hunting tricks
usually if its a nice buck try not to look at the antlers!!
if you only focus on taking the shot and where to put the arrow then you wont get near as much buck fever
I have had a few times where i was so excited i could barely hold the sights still enough for a good shot!

Re: Deer hunting tricks
Practice shooting how you hunt. A big reason why guys make bad shots is because they fail to practice how they hunt. I hunt most of the time from ground blinds and 99 percent of my practice is done from the chairs I hunt from. If you hunt from a stand then practice from a stand. Standing upright at the range all year is not the same as shooting from a chair, on your knees, or odd angles in a stand. Also remember when you practice, your first shot is the only one that counts. Make it your best. You can also run around a bit before you take a practice shot to get the heart pumping to better simulate the excitement of the moment of truth. Also practice during season as much as you do before. For some reason most guys stop shooting during season when they need to be their sharpest.
